Since September 15, 2015, when it became known that the German car manufacturer VOLKS WAGEN has installed illegal emissions-related software in its cars, more owners of the group's cars have filed lawsuits against the company.

In Greece, the Athens Magistrate's Court, with its decision No. 5286/2017, awarded compensation in the amount of 5,200 euros in favor of the owner of a VW POLO 1.2 car. The company challenged the decision with an appeal, but it waived its petition, according to a publication of the "Eleftheros Typos" newspaper. This in principle means accepting the German car manufacturer's responsibility for paying compensation and makes it significantly easier for owners of VW group cars to claim compensation. On VW's official website, someone can find out if illegal software is installed on their car, and thus easily prove one of the conditions for the payment of compensation.

In order to claim compensation, it is necessary to file a compensation action in the competent court. However, in view of the risk of their claims being time-barred, the car owners of the German automotive group must act as soon as possible.
